The year of 2015 was a big one for Weebly: they launched new features and continued their role as a one of the largest web hosting companies, now hosting over 30 million sites and receiving over 250 million unique visitors each month. Their growth in 2015 was exponential, with their Cyber Monday sale to eCommerce sites growing a massive 80% since 2014, setting a new record.
Though 2015 has been impressive, Weebly want 2016 to prove to be even better: they are planning more investment in platform improvements, and also planning to add more features, and launch a brand new Weebly Community. The Weebly Community will be a place for users of Weebly to connect and offer ideas about how the service can be improved.
In their blog post announcing the Community, Weebly said:
These are some of the best highlights from Weebly over the past year:
Weebly Carbon is the next generation of Weebly; it features drag and drop mobile apps, responsive themes, and all-new Weebly App Center. There are new themes such as Paper, Slick, and Oasis, as well as a full overhaul of the website Editor, with over 200 post-launch changes to upgrade the overall performance. Some new features also include a real-time dashboard for viewing everything going on in your website: the blog comments, data, site statistics, all together in one easily viewed place.
This new Carbon development also means that users can fully edit their websites simply using their phone – or indeed any mobile device. This feature uses new iPhone, iPad and Android apps, which all mean websites can be changed and added to from anywhere.
2. New Domains
Weebly also launched 9 new domains to help users localize their websites for varying regions and geographical areas around the world; this also makes it possible for Weebly customers to set themselves up with multiple domains.
This feature allows customers to assign a primary domain to their site, and then to also assign other domains to the same website. Users of Weebly can then choose the domain names which can be forwarded to when visitors are using the website; this means that content specific to geographical region and to present their visitors with the chance to be forwarded to the version of the site appropriate for them.
3. Page Layouts
This new 2015 feature from Weebly makes it easier for customers to create a better website than ever, with predefined page frameworks which automatically populate black pages with real site elements. These layouts provide a guidance and inspiration to those looking to further develop their websites and make them truly exceptional experiences for visitors.
The feature means you can populate a blank page with real site elements, but then also choose to add or delete different elements to personalise the layout and make a page perfect for you website. There are over 30 different page layouts to choose from, in addition to the specific customization available.
SimpleChat is a new feature from Weebly which allows customers to get and answer questions from their website visitors with their phone; it allows customers to get questions and receive answer via text message, and also integrates directly with the online Weebly store to let customers connect with each other, no matter where in the world they are. Weebly say that 45% of visitors will leave a site if their question are not answered quickly, and this is a crucial point for those using the Internet to run their businesses, and to sell their products.
This way, not only can Weebly users answer their customers’ questions wherever they are, but they can also avoid all the clutter in their email inbox that occurs when multiple people have queries. This way, Weebly users can also build long-term relationships with their customers, and provide the best available customer service.
5. Dream Big
Weebly wanted to show the world what great users they have, and show off the businesses who use their hosting service. So, they created a brand new TV commercial which features their user xobruno and also a second commercial which features the Botany Bay Farm. This shows Weebly reaching out to its customers, and engaging with the people who have made the company so successful.
6. IFTTT Integration
This feature allows users to plug their favourite services directly into their website, blog, or online store. You can
connect Weebly with tools such as Dropbox or Evernote, and even Google Drive, to create your very own customizable events and automated tasks. This is a great step in organisation for many who use Weebly for their website, and want it to be integrated into their work day.
The Weebly Integration tool is very easy to use, with the customer only having to go to the IFTTT website and click the button that says “Connect.”
7. Weebly Power Hour
This was another great proposal that Weebly made in 2015: they launched a competition, with the task to build a
website from scratch using only an iPad or an Android Tablet. The best site won a $5, 000 prize. The results were incredibly impressive, and the winner was a website called Myka’s Lemonade Stand and it showcased what can happen if someone dreams big.
All the sites were built using Weebly for iPad and Android tablet apps, and the competition took place back in June 2015. All the sites were built, amazingly, within only an hour, and the winning site had a number of features to promote the Lemonade Stand and the website was a great success.
8. Square Partnership
The Weebly Square Deal Partnership was set up to help millions of businesses and accept offline payments, and now you can use the Square to power online payments with direct integration into your online store.
Square payment processing is available for Business sites, and can be selected from Store and Checkout buttons in the Site Builder. The transaction fee for using Square processing is 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction.
As good as 2015 has been for Weebly, they promise that 2016 is going to even better. Weebly are investing big in platform improvements, and they are also adding some groundbreaking new features, including a brand new official Weebly Community. This will be set up so they can help entrepreneurs, who make up a lot of their customers; Weebly want their customers to be able to bring new features and big business ideas to the world. Weebly are planning to use this success in 2015 to continue to develop their plan into 2016 and provide an even better web hosting service.
